Mission: New York - Perfect Yanna

This was a witness encounter I had with Yanna outside of Grand Central Station. He seemed interested until the weight of the commandments began to challenge his conscience, then he was suddenly ready to leave. It was raining and we were huddled underneath the covered entrance way, but I guess he was more willing to get wet than to face his sin. By far, the most difficult and heartbreaking aspect of this witness encounter was his unwillingness to acknowledge any sin at all. Please pray for Yanna and that the Holy Spirit would work in his conscience.

Mission: New York Part 2

This audio is of my second open air experience (third ever) on a New York city subway car. There was standing room only. The most encouraging thing about this encounter was that there was a man on the other side of the car that kept making eye contact and nodding. It helped keep me going praise God. He thanked me on the way out onto the platform. After we got off the train, a woman came up behind me and thanked me offering me "good luck" on my mission. That was great to hear too. The blessing here was double: First I got to share the gospel to thirty or forty people, and secondly, I was acknowledged by two other Christians that I hope are now thinking about sharing Jesus with others. After all, part of why I do this is to motivate and mobilize the workers.

Upon listening to this again, I noticed an "amen" from the crowd that I do not remember hearing at the time. Just another confirmation that this message never gets old to the believer. This may sound extreme and fanatical to some, but we know that John the Baptist came preaching as "the voice of one crying in the wilderness..." (Matthew 3:3, Mark 1:3,Luke 3:4,John 1:23) Isn't this exactly what the open air preacher is doing? Like John, we are preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. I heard an evangelist once say "The gospel will be offensive to some, but we don't have to be." Hopefully my concern for the lost comes out in my tone and delivery. Mission: New York

My break from posting has been due to both staying in vacation mode and problems with my computer, but now that I'm fully acclimated to the reality of work and my Dell seems stable, there's lots to report. My next several posts will center on my experiences in New York City.

To celebrate our fifteen years of marriage, my wife and I took a trip to New York. Most of our time was spent in Montauk and the Hamptons in general on the east end of Long Island. We found a church family at Community Bible Church. Community Bible is within the family of Calvary Chapels and is situated in beautiful Sag Harbor. Thanks to Pastor Doug Kinney and everyone there that made us feel so welcome and at home.

Our trip also took us to New York City twice; The day after we flew in, and the day before we left. Both days presented many opportunities to share the Gospel one on one with individuals and also open air to many. Actually, the air wasn't too open where I preached--on the subway once the doors closed! I don't pretend to be a polished open air preacher and this first audio proves it. I was so nervous that you can hear my voice was considerably higher in tone than normal. I also didn't have any idea how long to the next stop so I was racing against the clock. Listen here as I share the Gospel with a captive audience--literally. This was actually only my second time doing open air preaching ever. Praise God for His direction.

Note: My nervous referance to "my Jewish brother" was the sudden realization that there was a young man wearing a Yarmulke(skullcap)in the audience.
